Ringo. A parting shot from July 2010.

Edgar Winter and Ringo.

What a show. What a night. As you look through my posts there is no secret of how I enjoyed this show. I will be telling stories of this one for many years. My last thought is one of thanks to Ringo Starr. Without his Beatles "star power" to draw a crowd we would have probably not seen such a great gathering of fabulous musicians. What a jam session it was and a night of hits that just took me on a journey through time. They all rocked. It was great. Ringo smiled and so did everyone in the building.

Hey, I'll see you , down the road.

It don't come easy,
You know it don't come easy.
It don't come easy,
You know it don't come easy.

Got to pay your dues if you wanna sing the blues,
And you know it don't come easy.
You don't have to shout or leap about,
You can even play them easy.

Open up your heart, let's come together,
Use a little love
And we will make it work out better,

I don't ask for much, I only want your trust,
And you know it don't come easy.
And this love of mine keeps growing all the time,
And you know it don't come easy.

Richard Page!

http://www.richardpagemusic.com/

Mr. Mister. Richard not only rocked the bass he is also one great vocalist. He did a couple of numbers that anyone who has ever turned on an FM receiver would know. Great stuff!

I should say I read a review from one person that said this was the best concert they had ever seen. I won't go that far but I will say I smiled for days thinking about all the great moments of this one night. Here is a Mr. Mister fix or two for you. Check them out:

What I like about you
You really know how to dance
When you go up, down, jump around
Think about true romance, yeah

You're whispering in my ear
Tell me all the things that I wanna hear
'Cause that's true
That's what I like about you
That's what I like about you
That's what I like about you, wahh, hey

Gary Wright!

Gary Wright. I saw him open for Peter Frampton in the 1970's. He is still sounding great! I loved the story of how he wrote his most famous song:

Fly me high through the starry skies
Maybe to an astral plane
Cross the highways of fantasy
Help me to forget today's pain

Ringo laughed after the song was over and said "Gary that was the best you have ever done on that song. I have one thing to say "George never gave me a damn book!" And he laughed..Ringo rocks. No one could have ever got all these great musicians together on one stage. He did it. Thanks Ringo.

Edgar WInter!

This was a picture I took during the song "Frankenstein." I knew the crew was setting this song up when they brought the drums on stage. Edgar is such a talented guy. He plays sax, he plays drums, he plays keyboards. And this song was off the damn meter. With Rick on guitar playing the solos to the hilt, shoulder to shoulder, they rocked this song to the maximum. Just like they did so many years ago. I am telling you no recording of this song will do. You simply have to see it live. It made my night.

This video was shot days before the show I saw:

I was smiling for days after this show. Hell I am still smiling watching the video. Yeah Baby. Life is good.

Rick Derringer!

Rick Derringer. http://www.rickderringer.com/

Yeah I am a huge fan. I have been for more decades than I want to admit. When I heard Rick and Edgar was on the bill I was like... sign me up. Long stories I don't want to bore you with right now.

I really want you to watch this link below. This was a moment. I was there and my eyes were streaming tears of joy to hear this. As good as any guitar solo I have ever heard. Rick is on fire on this song. What a band, what a night. It is good to be alive and feeling these tunes in person.

Ringo! There is only one!

Ringo. After seeing him live on stage I really have a fond appreciation of the man. He rocks. He is so damn unassuming. A real man's man. A musician's musician. You can tell he enjoys every moment of life and he looks awesome for his age. He moves like a young guy and acts like the world is his, almost like he is always up to something. My kind of guy.

His drumming? Well I listened to his beat. There is something about a stellar player. It is hard to compare. The man is so damn good. Yes there was a reason he was a Beatle once upon a time.

Peace and Love!

Ringo just celebrated his birthday. The crowd even sang it to him with no prompting. It was very cool. I like what he says. On my birthday all I want is peace and love. Say it for me. Now that I know that I always will.

There is a list of amazing talent on this stage tonight. But there is really only one Starr. All he does is smile and compliment the performers on stage. Ringo just smiles and claps his hands constantly. Very cool. The other players? They are AMAZING.

A foot note. The word beatle is never uttered the entire night. 'Nuff said.

Going up the stairs at the DPAC!

The Durham Performing Arts Center in Durham, North Carolina. Ringo is in the house!
http://www.dpacnc.com/

It was a hot July afternoon. In the shadow of the Durham Bulls baseball field and having just enjoyed a local cold micro-brew I am coming into the awesome performing Arts Center to see a real live living Beatle. I have seen fans from many states and tags on cars that say "Fab Four" and other things. Yes, these people are here to see a show for sure. I can't wait.

Did I mention Edgar Winter and Rick Derringer are in the house? Is this for real?
